Pharmacists Day: Safe and Effective Medicines for All

The World Pharmacists Day was celebrated on 25 September, 2019 all over India. The purpose of Pharmacists Day is to encourage activities that promote the role of the Pharmacists in improving health.
Safe and Effective Medicines for all was the theme of this year’s World Pharmacists Day. The theme aim to promote pharmacists’ role in safeguarding patient safety through improving medicines use and reducing medication errors.

Shri Abhay Kumar, President, Indian Pharmacist Association (IPA) said “Pharmacists use their broad knowledge and unique expertise to ensure that people get the best from their medicines. We ensure access to medicines and their appropriate use, improve adherence, coordinate care transitions etc.” He further added, “I extend my warm wish to my entire fellow pharmacists in India on the day and would like to mention that Pharmacists plays an important role around the world including India but the status of Pharmacists in India is not well established and recognised as compared to the other developed countries in the world, although the pharmacist in India plays a vital role in the helath. IPA have proposed to the central government of India several suggestions and necessary amendment in the existing setup in health services by which Pharmacist in India will be able to play a much important and respectable role.

In Delhi, an event was organised by Pharmacists Employees Association, Delhi Govt. at Auditorium of Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences to celebrate World Pharmacist Day. More than 800 Pharmacist working under Delhi Govt., CGHS, NDMC, Railway, MCD, Trainee Students attended the event.

Chief Guest of the event was Dr. K. Bangarurajan, Joint Drugs Controller of India. Other noticeable personality were Dr. Sangeeta Talwar, Medical Director, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Dr. Rajiv Gulati, Ex. CEO, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals. All the members of Delhi Pharmacy Council also graced the event.

Sh. Dinesh Kumar Chauhan, General Secretary of Pharmacist Employees Association apprised various issues faced by the pharmacists of Delhi Govt. including shortage of Pharmacists. He shared that association has written to Delhi Govt. various times for filling vacant posts of Pharmacist and Creation of new posts for pharmacists.

Along with General Secretary, PEA, all the office bearers were present including President Shri Bhupendra Kumar, Vice President Shri Mohd Abid Malik, Joint Secretary Shri Dhirender Shokeen and Mrs. Ratna Dua and Tresurer Shri Anil Verma. Chief Advisors of the association Shri Sanjay Bajaj and Shri Ramesh Sharma were also present in the auditorium.
